Topic - Research Ethics and the Internet
An interesting issue with research ethics is whether and how we need to update our approach in the age of internet research. This is a particularly important topic for UNE students, as most of you will be doing your 4th-year research topics on the internet, mostly via survey research or perhaps online experiments.
A recent controversial case involving internet-based research is that of Cambridge Analytica.
A more general article on the issues raised by internet-based research is here.
Read either or both of these articles. What do you think? Are there any issues this raises for the research you might like to do, or are currently planning, at UNE? Should we update our Ethics guidelines? Are there other examples you can find where internet-based research has been carried out unethically?
