Topic - How strong is the evidence for evidence-based practice?
This week I thought we would veer a little off-topic and into the territory of your other subject, PSYC421. Since many of you hope to become practising clinical psychologists or counsellors, have you thought about what the replication crisis might mean for evidence-based practice?
The other day I read a great blog post, “The Evidence for Evidence-Based Practice is Not as Clear as We Thought”, and of course I thought of you folks! It’s based on a published article by the same authors (paywalled, but UNE library does have it - I checked). You don’t have to read the article to post here, but I thought you might be interested.
What do you think? Does this affect the way you will consider what therapies you would use for your future clients? Are there therapies that you previously thought had strong evidence, and now you’re not so sure? How should psychologists move forward with this information? As a non-clinical person, I am genuinely interested in your views!
